Simple Past Tense is tense that is used to show an activity in the past.
Patterns and examples:
(+) S+to be+comp/object (You were a child 18 years ago)
(-) S+to be+not+comp/object (You were not a child 18 years ago)
(?) To be+S+comp/object+question tag (Were you a child 18 years ago?)
(+) S+V2+comp/object (He left his girl this morning)
(-) S+did+not+V1+comp/object (He did not leave his girl this morning)
(?) Did+S+V1+comp/object+question tag (Did he leave his girl this morning?)
Time Signal:
just now (baru saja)
this morning (tadi pagi)
last night (tadi malam)
yesterday (kemarin)
last month (bulan lalu)
a few days ago (beberapa hari yang lalu)
two years ago (dua tahun yang lalu), etc.
Notes:
To be; was: I, he, she, it
were: you, we, they
did: for all subject
In negative and interrogative sentence, past participle (V2) back to the infinitive (V1).
