Recount Text


Recount text is a text that is used to retell past events or  experiences in the order they happened.
In recount, past tense is mostly used. But sometimes, the writer also use past continuous or past future tense.

Generic structure of recount:
• Orientation
This part introduces the scene.
• Events
This part retells what happened.
• Reorientation
This part tells the writer’s comment about the events that happened.

This is an example of recount text:

Orientation - introduces the scene


I went to Marina circuit in the morning to join a car race.
 
 
                                                                              

Events      - retells what happened


I arrived at seven and directly checked up his engine.
The race started at eight.
At first I led the race, but it wasn’t long because suddenly 
another car hit my car from behind.
I lost the race and my car was broken.
 
 


                                                                                                  

Reorientation  - tells the writer’s comment about the events that happened.
I was very disappointed with my loser.
