Expressing Sympathy

Expressing sympathy is a sentence that show our sympathy to our friends, family or other people when they go through a terrible situation. Here are some expressions we can use to show our sympathy.
Ø I’m sorry to hear that.
Ø Oh, dear. I know how it feels.
Ø What a terrible situation for you!
Ø Poor you.
Ø What a shame!
Ø You must be upset.
Ø Please accept my condolences!
Ø You have my deepest sympathy.
Ø What a terrible situation!
Ø That’s a pity!
Ø Oh, that’s so awful.

Below is an example dialog of expressing sympathy.

Kath     : “Why do you so nervous dear?”
Mellanie : “What a fool, I forgot to bring my homework and assignment. In fact, I prepared them on the desk, but I forgot to bring them.
Kath     : “Oh.. I’m sorry to hear that, Mell”
Mellanie : “So, what must I do?”
Kath     : “I think, you’d better tell the truth to Mrs. Wrame about it. I think she’ll understand. Then, you can submit your work tomorrow”
Mellanie : “You’re right. Thanks for your concern”
Kath     : “Not at all”.
